Of all the problems girls and women go through, I personally feel that facial hair are the most embarrassing one. I mean really, we are not men meant to have facial hair. Sweet, fair, charming and beautiful faces and then you notice those little velvety beards and moustaches! They really makes me go cranky…
We all know, there are alot of beauty salons and parlous where one can beautify ourself more and apart from having some lavish spa services, mani’s and pedi’s, facials or anything, people often go for complete makeovers which changes their looks and gives them new personality to flaunt!
We have got alot of beautifying options such as hot and cold wax, tweezing and threading and even lasers and electrolysis, yet again you got to have your wallet heavy to opt certain options. And even if you have got yourself backed up, there are many of us who still don’t get the opportunity to take out time from our daily chores and children and responsibilities to visit parlours at a regular basis just for OURSELVES!!!
So here now, I thought why not try home remedies!
Anyways, why do facial hair exists?? How to remove them safely at home using some natural remedies is what we are going to see in this post.
FACIAL HAIR CAUSES:
Facial hair are typically the secondary sex characteristics of a male being. But all women also posses this characteristics to a very minimal (neglectable) point and is considered normal. However, due to some medical reasons, these facial hair sprouts appear thick, dark and even obtain a male type pattern. We normally refer such a condition as “Hormonal Imbalance”.
All females(women) produces a hormone called androgen in low levels. But under certain medical conditions, these androgens are produced in higher-than-normal levels causing this self conscious and embarrassing condition of excessive facial hair.
The most common causes of such hormonal imbalances are:
- Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
- Irregular Periods (Menstrual Cycle)
- Abnormal or sudden weight gain
- Adrenal gland disorders
where irregular periods and abnormal weight gain are directly related to PCOS which is the most common and root cause of excessive facial hair.
HOME REMEDIES FOR FACIAL HAIR:
1. GRAMFLOUR (BESAN) FACEPACK:
This is my favourite DIY beauty remedy of all times. It has multiple benefits and can be used as a natural solution to almost any skin problem from acne, oily skin, pigmentation, skin tan to removal of facial hair.
To remove facial hair using gramflour/chickpeas flour(besan), we are going to need:

- 3 tbsp of gramflour
- A pinch of organic turmeric(haldi)
- 1 tsp lemon juice(optional)
- Some water
Mix all the ingredients to form a paste and keep it aside.
PROCEDURE:
- Start by washing your face and neck with warm water for about a minute or two. You can dab your face with a hot towel instead.
- Now start applying the facemask in an even layer from forehead and then going towards chin and neck. Avoid the eye area.
- Let it dry completely( This may take some time).
- Once it has completely dried out, gently start rubbing the mask in the opposite direction of the hair (i.e., towards your forehead). Start from the face and then go for neck.
- This may seem a bit rough but be patient ladies.
- Once it is done, wash you face and neck with cold water to remove the leftover bits of the mask.
- Pat dry with a clean towel.
You will be amazed by the results just from first try. Repeat it once a week for about 4 weeks and the changes will be fairly noticeable. The other benefit of this facemask is that the turmeric adds natural glow to the skin while lemon juice reduces dark spots and tan. Although both of them are totally optional, I like to include them to my compulsion.
I personally use this facemask and am very much pleased by the results as one can notice an instantly glowing and hair-free clear skin.
TIP: A little redness is noticed when you remove the mask. This is completely normal and harmless as it is caused by the removal of dried mask.
Cold water splash or ice cubes can be used for the redness relief.
2. DIY NATURAL WAX:
YES!! A DIY natural wax is also safe to use on face although people with sensitive skin must take extra care and precautions. This home-made wax can also be used to treat body hair such as armpits, hands, legs and back. We all know waxing is a great way to remove dead skin, unwanted hair and tanning. And what’s better than going natural??! This natural wax requires equal quantities of sugar and lemon juice. Let’s see how to make it.

- 5 tbsp of sugar
- 5 tbsp of lemon juice
- 2 tbsp of natural honey
Mix all the ingredients and heat them until you attain a gluey and waxy textured smooth paste. Let it cool down a bit.
PROCEDURE:
- Wash you face or hands/legs with warm water to help in opening up the pores.
- Pat dry with a clean towel and start applying the wax.
- Apply the wax in the direction of the hair.
- With the help of waxing strips, pull it out in the opposite direction of the hair.
- When done, rinse the cleaned area with cold water.
This is also one of the best DIY methods for hair removal. Honey here makes the skin smooth and supple and helps to reduce dark spots over regular use.
Repeat it twice a month for a fair, smooth and flawless skin.
3. EGG MASK:
Eggs contributes among one of the most effective natural remedies for a number of purposes such as unwanted facial hair removal, blackheads removal, wrinkles treatment and even as a hair mask to treat dry and frizzy hair.
Let’s see how eggs can help to remove unwanted facial hair. You are going to need:

- 1 egg white
- 1 tsp of cornflour
- 1 tsp of lemon juice
- 1 tsp of sugar
Mix all the ingredients until well combined.
PROCEDURE:
- Start with a hot bath or rinse face and neck with warm water to help the pores to open up.
- Apply the egg mask all over the face and neck avoiding the eye area.
- Let it sit for about 20 minutes.
- Pull out the mask to the opposite direction of the hair growth.
- Rinse with cold water and pat dry with a clean towel.
I prefer to add lemon juice in almost all home remedies as it is an excellent natural bleach whether it be used in hair removal mask, clear/glowing skin mask, natural exfoliating scrubs or even to treat hair for dandruff.
4. PAPAYA AND TURMERIC:
We all know, papaya is an excellent skin exfoliating and brightening agent. Well, for those who don’t know, it also helps to remove unwanted hair as its papain enzyme breaks down the hair follicles gradually, hence a visibly less facial hair with every use.

You are going to need:
- Few scoops of papaya pulp(mashed).
- ¼ tsp of organic turmeric powder(haldi).
Mix the papaya pulp with turmeric powder to form a paste.
PROCEDURE:
- Rinse face and neck with lukewarm water and pat dry with a clean towel.
- Apply the papaya paste and gently massage it in circular motions on the face and neck for about 10-15 minutes.
- Leave it for more 15 minutes.
- Wash off with lukewarm water until the water runs clear.
- Then rinse again with cold water.
HINT:
The turmeric might leave a yellowish tint to the skin but that’s perfectly fine and harmless. It also helps to add glow to the skin with a consistent use.
Apply this mixture twice a week for about two months to notice the facial hair vanish away!
5. HONEY AND LEMON JUICE:
Honey and lemon juice mask is the best and hassle free option to go if you are lazy enough to apply scrubbing or peeling masks. To prepare this hair removal mask, you are just going to need two ingredients which are readily available in almost every household and that are honey and lemon. Yes! That’s it!

- 2 tbsp of honey
- 1 tbsp of lemon juice
Mix both the ingredients well in a bowl.
PROCEDURE:
- Start by washing face and neck with warm water and pat dry with a clean towel.
- Apply the honey and lemon mask and leave it for about 15-20 minutes.
- Wash off with cold water.
Use this mask alternate days to obtain the skin you wanted.
All the above remedies work wonders to get rid off unwanted facial hair. Apart from these remedies, there are many such ways to get the skin we want but these are the best of skin care care remedies which not only helps to reduce the facial hair, but also each of the above gives a glowing, clear, smooth and soft tan-free skin.
In addition to these remedies, individual skin nature also plays a vital role to adapt to different treatments. Although above remedies are totally natural and safe, it is advisable to discontinue the use if you observe any unusual redness or swelling or itchy reactions or if you are allergic to any of the above mentioned ingredients. Choose the treatments considering the type of skin you have as the result may vary to every individual. But being consistent is the key to achieve required results.
So what are you ladies waiting for?? Let’s go natural!!!
